Regular consumers of chili peppers had a risk reduction of heart attack with a fatal outcome of 40%, compared to non-chili consumers. The cause is the protective effect of the capsaicin, the substance that gives the hot sensation the chili pepper. They also decreased the risk of stroke and lowered their mortality risk for other health conditions by 23%.
