Lack Of Proper Sleep Prevents The Body From Repairing Itself At Night
Anxiety, Depression, And High Blood Pressure Are Also Related To Poor Sleep
One of the negative effects of modern life is sleep deprivation. This occurs when the body is receiving fewer hours than the ones required to repair itself. Artificial light has modified the sleep pattern that humans have had for thousands of years. Sleep deprivation increases blood pressure, undermines the immune system, and affects memory and mood. In most cases, people feel rested after 8 hours, but the general rule is 7 to 9 hours. Sleep consists of several cycles, which an individual duration of 90 minutes each. There are several sleep phases in a cycle: rosiness, which only happens once when falling asleep, light sleep, moderate sleep, deep sleep, and REM (rapid eye motion) sleep, in which dreams occur. In the initial phases, the body lowers the temperature and the heartbeat. In deep sleep, the body and the mind repair themselves, releasing several hormones, and in REM sleep, the mind organizes memories. Total sleep time must be calculated considering the number of cycles. Five or six cycles will take 7:30 to 9 hours of sleep. Also, conditions such as depression and anxiety can affect sleep leading to insomnia and sleep apnea. Also, cardiovascular conditions can be related to poor sleep due to the lack of rest for the heart. Additional information click here.
